CNIB Lake Joseph Centre 2014 Fishing Program

Enriching lives, making memories

Located in the heart of Muskoka, CNIB’s Lake Joseph Center (affectionately referred to as Lake Joe) is a fully accessible lakefront facility that provides a unique blend of recreation and vision rehabilitation in a safe, inclusive environment.

The facility offers recreational opportunities for people with vision loss and their families. Activities include swimming, fishing, hiking and relaxing. Art programming is also available, and Muskoka chairs are on-site for rest and relaxation.

About the Blind Fishing Program

The Blind Fishing Program will introduce CNIB Lake Joseph Center guests to the joys of fishing.  Participants will learn the basics of fishing such as baiting a hook, casting a line, and reeling in the big one!  This intimate program will be the highlight of your stay at Lake Joe.

About the Instructor

Blind since age eight, Lawrence Gunther is a professional fisher. Competing in more than 20 fishing tournaments a year, aboard his kayak or 20-foot fishing boat, Lawrence has taken home his share of trophies and cheques. By partnering with the CNIB Lake Joseph Center in the development and delivery of the Blind Fishing Program, individuals who are blind or partially sighted will have an opportunity to learn Lawrence’s tried-and-true fishing techniques.
